Potato Dextrose Agar

For the routine cultivation and identification of fungi.

Ingredients

  • Potato dextrose agar (Oxoid CM139) 39 g
  • Distilled water 1000 ml

Method

  1. Soak potato dextrose agar in small amount of the water in a stainless steel jug.
  2. Boil remaining water, add to soaking ingredients, bring to the boil, stirring constantly.
  3. Dispense for slopes as required.
  4. Autoclave at 121C for 15 minutes. Remove and slope or pour for plates as required.
